Volume 4 • Issue 3 • 1000295 J Anesth Clin Res ISSN:2155-6148 JACR an open access journal Since the mid-19th century the histories of anesthesia and dentistry have been intertwined. However, office-based dental procedures which frequently involve analgesia, conscious sedation, and anesthesia vary from practice-to-practice with regard to respiratory monitoring. In modern oral and maxillofacial surgery, oxygenation is often emphasized over ventilation via usage of pulse oximetry (SpO2). A recent Pubmed search using multiple appropriate Medical Subject Headings Terms (MeSH Terms) and following up on related citation trails results in a limited number of topic specific citations dating back to 1987. In this review, we summarize the literature that compares oximetry (SpO2 and the less common PTCO2) to ventilatory measurements, specifically capnometry (PETCO2) in the setting of oral and maxillofacial surgery and provide a comprehensive primer on the technological and respiratory considerations essential for a practitioner attempting to incorporate ventilatory monitoring.

Using Absorbable Gelatin Sponge to Facilitate Sinus Membrane Elevation during Open Sinus Lift: Technical Notes and Case Series
Ridge atrophy accompanied by the pneumatization of maxillary sinus in the maxillary posterior region may lead to inadequate bone height, thereby precluding implant placement. Therefore, it may be mandatory to perform a sinus membrane elevation procedure and augmentation in the bone. The present study aimed to introduce a novel modification method for sinus floor elevation using a gelatin sponge...
متن کاملA Review of Biopsy in Dentistry: Principles, Techniques, and Considerations
Biopsy is a useful technique for definitive diagnosis of abnormal oral conditions and it must be performed carefully since any error may result in histopathologic misidentification of the lesion. Present study evaluated the most relevant literatures published between 1982 and 2012 in order to review existed guidelines of correct biopsy performance using scientific database sources such as PubMe...
متن کاملEctopic Ciliated Cyst in the Mandible Secondary to Genioplasty and Lefort after Two Years: A Case Report and Literature Review
Introduction: The ectopic ciliated cyst is a rare non-odontogenic cyst which occurs as a delayed complication after maxillary sinus radical surgery; this lesion emerges due to the destruction of the sinus mucosa during the surgery and entrapment of the respiratoryepitheliumin the region. This lesion has been observed in very rare cases following genioplasty and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery....

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Oral leukoplakia (OL) is a common premalignant lesion. The possible benefits of specific interventions in preventing a malignant transformation of OL are not well understood. This review assesses different invasive treatment techniques for OL and evaluate the optimal treatment possibilities.METHODS: A Medline (PubMed) search was conducted and heterogeneity between the studie...
متن کاملFibrous Dysplasia of the Maxillofacial Region, a Review of 134 cases at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria
Fibrous dysplasia (FD) belongs to a group of lesions known as fibro osseous lesions (FOL) whereby normal bone is replaced with fibrous tissue containing abnormal bone or cementum. FOL are the most frequent and the most difficult lesions to diagnose, as they share overlapping spectrum of clinicopathological, radiological, and immunological characteristics. In this retrospective study of 134 maxi...
